Dungarpur princely state was initially under the control of Bhils, Chauhan and Paramara Rajputs. Karan Singh of Mewar sent his eldest son Mahup, to fight against the invasions of Parihar Rajput of Mandor, Rang Mokal, by the end of 12th century. When Mahup failed, his elder brother Rahup was sent to fight the invasion. Rahup won and became eligible for kingship.
